چکیده
Even at the primary level, computational thinking (CT) can support young students to prepare for participating in futures that are immersed data. In mathematics classrooms, there few explanations of ways CT formulating and solving complex problems. This paper presents an example a classroom investigation (8-9 year olds) over seven lessons problem “How long does it take read book?” The aim is illustrate statistical provide context demonstrate how two complement each other solve problems involving mathematics. findings highlight opportunities challenges face across elements CT—decomposition, abstraction, pattern recognition modelling, generalization algorithmic thinking, including recommendations teaching.

How long does it take to establish a morphogen gradient?
A morphogen gradient is defined as a concentration field of a molecule that acts as a dose-dependent regulator of cell differentiation. One of the key questions in studies of morphogen gradients is whether they reach steady states on timescales relevant for developmental patterning. We propose a systematic approach for addressing this question and illustrate it by analyzing several models that ...
متن کاملHow long does it take to become a proficient hunter ?
Human hunting is arguably one of the most difficult activities common to foraging peoples now and in the past. Children and teenagers have usually been described as incompetent hunters in ethnographies of hunter-gatherers. This paper explores the extent to which adult-level competence is limited more by the constraints of physical capital, or body size, and brain-based capital, or skills and le...
متن کاملHow long does it take for antidepressant therapies to act?
OBJECTIVE To review the proposition that antidepressants have a delayed onset of action by employing measurement and analytic strategies that overcome problems confounding interpretation of many efficacy studies. METHOD A subset of patients was recruited to the longitudinal component of the Australasian database study, was assessed at baseline, and then completed measures of depression and an...
متن کاملHow Long Does it Take to Identify Everyday Sounds?
Previous studies of alarm design have concluded that the faster a mental representation of the cause of the alarm is activated, the quicker the adapted reaction. In order to select sounds that are quick to identify , an experiment was carried out using a gated stimulus paradigm with 117 everyday sounds. Almost half of the sounds were identified in less than 150 ms, including both classical alar...
متن کاملSubfunctionalization: How often does it occur? How long does it take?
The mechanisms responsible for the preservation of duplicate genes have been debated for more than 70 years. Recently, Lynch and Force have proposed a new explanation: subfunctionalization--after duplication the two gene copies specialize to perform complementary functions. We investigate the probability that subfunctionalization occurs, the amount of time after duplication that it takes for th...
